Welcome Back!

Parents,
       Here we go, back to the grind, but only for FOUR DAYS, then we enjoy Easter Long Weekend, then a THREE DAY week!  Boy, time is flying, isn't it!?

Here's what to expect next week...

Language:
Reading: Continued small group instruction in guided reading groups with a focus on making inferences / connections / and identifying character traits.
Writing:  Writing paragraphs using a  topic sentence, three or four detail sentences and ending with a closing sentence.
Grammar: We've already learned all about nouns and adjectives, now we move on to verbs and adverbs, the use of quotation marks, commas and contractions.

Math:NSN

1.  Division / Multiplication - 

2.  Money -
Gr. 2 -  estimate, count, and represent (using the ¢ symbol) the value of a collection of coins with a maximum value of one dollar.
Gr. 3 -  estimate, count, and represent (using the $ symbol) the value of a collection of coins and bills with a maximum value of $10.

Science:
Gr. 2 - We continue our unit on Liquids and Solids
Social Studies:
Gr. 3 - Living and Working in Ontario - Students begin their specialized community projects in partners on a specific community in Ontario.



Religion:
Image result for images of religion curriculum document ontarioWe plan to reflect on how we are doing in our Lenten Promises, as Easter approaches.  Also, we will take a closer look at Holy Week and the events leading up to death and resurrection of Jesus.  I have an interactive Easter Egg unit planned that involves searching for eggs at the beginning of each lesson to find and reveal each symbol of the Easter Story that relates to a story in the Bible.


Art:

Image result for images of art curriculum document ontarioVisual Art:  We continue to learn how to create illusionary textures in 2D art using specific textures such as tree bark, bricks, fish scales, grass, thatch, and more!
Music - We continue to learn various songs and notes on the recorder.
Drama - Soon we will be beginning a unit in drama and practise and perform a play with special focus on voice control, stage presence, expression, body language and collaboration with group members.




Health:

  • Personal Safety and Injury Prevention - describe how to relate positively to others (e.g., cooperate, show respect, smile, manage anger), and describe behaviours that can be harmful in relating to others (e.g., verbal abuse, including name calling, insults, and mocking; deliberately ignoring someone; physical violence, including pushing, kicking, and hitting)
  • We will take a specific look at hazardous materials and their symbols and learn about safety regarding the use and handling of these substances.
  • Healthy Eating- demonstrate an understanding of the importance of good oral health to overall health, and assess the effect of different food choices on oral health
  • Substance Use, Addictions, and Related Behaviours - demonstrate an understanding of different types of legal and illegal substance abuse (e.g., dependency on nicotine in cigarettes or caffeine in coffee, energy drinks, and colas, or sugar and salt in sports drinks, or alcohol in beer, wine, and spirits) and the impacts of abusing these substances on themselves and others
