Math Test on Graphing

Parents,
     Students will be assessed in Math this Thursday in Data Mgt.  Things may seem to be moving fast, however, we have had some short math units that only require a couple of weeks to complete.  Our final unit will be on Geometry to conclude all five term one math strands.

Review:
Gr. 2 - The two's will be asked to generate a questions, create a chart/table to organize their survey, conduct a survey, collect and enter the data on their charts using tallies, create a bar graph using their data from their charts, and finally, interpret the data on their graphs in 5 different ways.

Gr. 3 - See the Grade 3 math duo tangs for review.  Questions similar to the last 6 pages will be asked.  Students are expected to be able to create, read and interpret pictographs and bar graphs.

I will send home the students' math books to review.  (We have done a great deal of work / review in class on this unit, so although review is certainly helpful, it is not necessary for your child to do well in this particular unit).

GRADE THREE ONLY:

Last week's quiz for the grade 3s in Science on Muscular Force went well, however, review is a must.  There if very little information to review (1 or 2 pages tops) and I think some students underestimated the need to actually spend 20 - 30 minutes a night reviewing.  The class average was a L3-.  Students can do better.  Please make sure your child is reviewing.

Hello GRADE THREE Parents!

         Just a heads up on our current science unit and how it will go down....

This unit will done a little bit differently than our last Science unit where we had a big unit test at the end of the entire unit.  This unit on Forces will be made up of four quizzes and one unit test each on a particular force.  I will be showing a short video clip from Bill Nye the Science Guy and other sources followed by a review sheet from which to study.  Students will get two days to prepare for each quiz.  Students in the past really liked this format and did quite well because they only had to focus on limited information to learn at one time.  Typically, I gave one day for the review, but I think this year I will give two days.  Encourage your child to use these two days wisely!  It's an easy way to earn a great mark in science!

So, our first quiz will be Friday on Muscular Forces.  Please go over the review sheet tonight with your child in preparation for Friday's quiz.

Happy New Year!

Welcome back Team Wilson and Happy New Year!

We are now beginning the second part of our school year and we aren't wasting ANY time getting down to business!  Here's what to expect this week...

Math - We are continuing on our brief unit on Data Management - conducting surveys, collecting data, recording data, entering data onto vertical bar graphs and interpreting data.  I hope to wrap up this unit some time mid week next week.

Art:  Students will be having an art quiz on Wednesday on warm and cool colours.  See their art duo tangs for review.

Science - We are beginning a new unit in Science.  Gr. 2 - Air and Water and Gr. 3 - Forces.

Language - we continue to plow on in paragraph writing using our Stoplight Paragraph format of topic sentence, 3-4 detail sentences, and a closing sentence.  Expect an assessment on this by the end of this week.

Dance - we are working on a variety of dance steps from different genres of music including line dancing, hip hop and jazz.  Ask your child about his/her group dance routine later this week!

If I haven't already shocked you back into work mode, I'm impressed!  More to come soon!
