Hello Parents!

Image result for images of recordersLast week, Thursday night was an EARNED no homework night for the entire school for the Cookie Dough Fundraiser, but students still had to prepare for their math test and spelling words and complete their THRoW.  So, this week, there will be no THRoW for the week. Spelling will still be on Friday, and students are asked to practise their recorders for 10 minutes a night.  Songs they are expected to practise are highlighted in their black duo tang Music books.  I will test on a weekly basis randomly for ongoing marks.

Image result for images of parents helping kids do mathParents,
Some students in the class continue to struggle with how to tell time.  Please practise this with them as often as possible tonight and tomorrow night in preparation for Friday's test. This a concept that is crucial in everyday life as we deal with calendars and time several times throughout the day.  Your support is crucial as I have limited time to work with them individually during the day.

Here is what you need to focus on...

Gr. 2 -

Image result for images of parents helping their kids practise time on clocks
  • Reading a calendar
  • Telling time to the hour, half hour, quarter hour
  • Telling time two ways Ex.  Quarter to six or 5:45
  • Elapsed time  Ex.  It is 7:00, what time will it be in 15 minutes?
  • Identifying if temperature is rising or falling
  • CHALLENGE:  Recording temperature on a thermometer
  • Identifying appropriate clothing for the four seasons
  • Identifying activities you would likely do in each season
  • Identifying # of days in a week (7), # of days in a year (365), # of weeks in a year (52), # of months in a year (12), # of days in a leap year (366), # of days in February in a leap year (29), # of days in February in a regular year (28)

Gr. 3 -

Need a Vacation Photo!

Image result for images of fun places for kidsHi Parents,
Image result for images of postcards from colasanti tropical gardens ontario        As we finish us our unit on letter writing, we conclude with postcards from memorable family vacations!  We are asking that you send in one photograph of your child on vacation that would be suitable for the front of a postcard.  Hopefully, in it are hints of where you were.  Your child will be writing a postcard (using the features of a letter) to a friend in the class.  It will be posted up on our Team Bulletin Board as we proudly display our hard work! Try to find a picture that has your child IN it if possible.  Please send in by Thursday, but the sooner the better!  It doesn't have to be anywhere exotic, as you notice by some of the local places I've included in pictures.  Discuss some of the things you did there if it has been a while to refresh your child's memory.  I will take pictures of your child's final postcard for you to enjoy and post them on my blog by next week! Thank you in advance!

Also, thank you for the steady flow of cans!  Our class total is currently at 30!  Keep 'em coming!

AM 800 12th Annual Cans for a Cause

THE CHALLENGE IS ON!!!

Dear Parents,
The players on Team Wilson  are being challenged by Mr. Kosty's and Mrs. Ferrato's classes to collect as many cans as possible over the next couple of weeks in preparation for the Christmas GIVING SEASON.  We are going to be delivering the cans that we collect by packing up our backpacks and walking them over to the Devonshire Mall food court where AM 800 is hosting a canned food collection for the St. Vincent De Paul Society. We are aiming for 8-9 cans per student to pack into their back packs!  Any donations that you can make will be greatly appreciated.  We even talked in class about students possibly taking on a few extra chores around the house to earn enough money to purchase canned goods on their own.  Or, maybe, offering to earn their 'allowance' in cans instead of cash for a couple of weeks!  The possibilities are endless and certainly all for a great cause!  Nothing like building a little character!
