Happy Weekend, parents!

As a teacher, my primary goal for my students is to assist them in developing the 6 LEARNING SKILLS that you see on progress reports/report cards 3 times a year, every year.  This first page of the reports, in my opinion, is the MOST important part of your child's learning.  It is these skills that will allow your child to succeed not only in school, but in life.  What am I looking for in each skill?  Have a peek below...

  • Students are responsible for adding their new WOW words into their agendas every Monday. If a student is absent, they are to do this the very next day.
  • Students are responsible for completing their weekly agenda on Monday morning.
  • Students are responsible for reading EVERY NIGHT for 20 minutes using any of the books available in my classroom.
  • Students are responsible for changing their Independent Reading books as needed.
  • Students are responsible for completing their homework on time.

This week...

All Souls Day/All Saints Day Mass is being put on by 2/3 Wilson, 3/4 Ferrato, and 3 Kosty.  All parents are welcome to attend.  It will be in our school gym at 1:30 pm this Friday.

Upcoming Math Test - Test will likely be this Thursday.  This unit was very brief, overlapping much of what we learned last unit on number sense.  Focus will be on identify and describing number patterns in the hundreds chart and on number lines...
Ex.
11, 22, 33, 44, 55  This number pattern starts at 11 and increases by 11.  It forms a diagonal line down to the right on a hundreds chart.  Both the ones place value digit and tens place value digits start at 1 and increase by one.

And relating addition to multiplication...
Ex.  3+3+3+3+3=15 or 5 x 3=15
The first number in a multiplication sentence refers to the number of groups.  The second number refers to the number IN each group.  So, 5 x 3 = 15 can be understood as 5 groups of 3.

I will send home the math books for review two days before the test.  Please review with your child.

Thursday The Great Big Crunch.  Our school, along with the Ontario Student Nutrition Program will be participating in the great big crunch.  There will be an assembly at 10:00 am where students will be participating in a healthy physical workout and crunching on apples!
